Counselling process
In the counselling visit (30 – 45 min) we clarify your goals (pregnancy prevention, cycle regulation, acne, pain reduction, endometriosis), history (risks, medications, lifestyle) and preferences (hormones yes/no, frequency, reversibility).
You receive a written pros & cons profile of suitable methods — no recommendation against your will.
Methods overview
Hormonal methods
- Combined pill (CHC) — daily, helpful for cycle issues
- Mini-pill (POP) — daily, lower hormone, suitable when breastfeeding
- Vaginal ring — monthly, low-dose
- Hormone patch — weekly, transdermal
- Hormonal IUS — every 3 – 8 years, very reliable
- Implant — every 3 years, “set and forget”
Hormone-free methods
- Copper IUD — every 5 – 10 years, fully hormone-free
- Diaphragm / FemCap — before each intercourse
- Condom & FemCondom — also STI protection
- Sympto-thermal method (NFP) — cycle observation with discipline
Hormonal vs. hormone-free — the honest answer
Method change
A method may stop fitting after years — that's normal. Change counselling in 20 min, change usually in the same visit (e.g. pill → IUD).
Cost coverage
A consultation or examination is not automatically a compulsory-insurance benefit merely because it is provided by a doctor; the specific medical purpose and statutory benefit criteria are decisive. Contraceptives and procedures are generally self-paid in Switzerland. A diagnosis such as endometriosis does not automatically establish cover: the product, authorised indication, Specialities List entry, limitations and any prior insurer approval must be checked individually. See costs and insurance assessment.
